Two different reference values

Keep advertised speed and typical speed separate

A US Broadband Consumer Label lists pricing plus typical download, typical upload, and typical latency. Those values are distinct from a maximum advertised plan speed. The audit preserves both references instead of quietly substituting one for the other.

Advertised plan

Enter the download and upload speed used to identify or sell the plan. Treat it as a user-supplied reference, not an automatically verified entitlement.

Label typical performance

Enter typical download, upload, and latency exactly as the label shows them. Outside the US, use the equivalent contract or regulator disclosure when available.

Measured browser sample

The test includes the device, local network, browser, internet route, and selected endpoint. It does not directly measure only the access line.

Exact aggregation and reporting rules

Only locally measured runs with full download and upload transfer confidence enter the median. Editable shared values and incomplete or degraded transfer runs remain visible but are excluded. The bands below describe the selected sample; they do not decide a contract or regulatory question.

Internet speed versus plan questions

How do I check whether I get the internet speed I pay for?
Enter the advertised download and upload values from your plan, add the separate typical values from its Broadband Consumer Label when available, and compare several eligible measured runs. Prefer Ethernet, pause unrelated traffic, record the provider, and test across more than one date.
Should I compare my test with advertised or typical speed?
Keep the two references separate. Advertised speed describes the plan value used in marketing or sale, while a US Broadband Consumer Label separately discloses typical download, upload, and latency. The audit reports both without treating them as interchangeable.
What percentage of advertised internet speed should I get?
There is no universal percentage that proves compliance for every plan, technology, place, or test method. SwiftSpeedTest uses transparent descriptive bands at 90 and 100 percent to organize a browser sample; those bands are not contractual, legal, or regulatory thresholds.
Why does the plan audit use a median?
A median reduces the influence of one unusually high or low observation. It is still only a summary of the selected browser runs and cannot remove device, Wi-Fi, routing, endpoint, or time-of-day effects.
Which speed test results are eligible for the audit?
The aggregate includes locally measured runs with full download and upload transfer confidence. Editable shared results and runs with missing or degraded transfer confidence are disclosed and excluded.
Can this report prove my ISP violated its contract?
No. It is an organized browser evidence packet, not a certified access-line measurement, legal opinion, or regulatory finding. Keep the original plan label and bill, repeat controlled wired tests, and follow the provider or regulator process that applies in your location.
Where are the plan details and test history stored?
The plan form and recent speed-test history stay in local browser storage on the device running the test. They are not stored in a SwiftSpeedTest account. JSON and CSV downloads occur only when you request them.
