Get faster, steadier results

Follow these focused steps, run a fresh speed test, and compare the numbers against your goals.

Baseline your connection

  • Run SwiftSpeedTest next to the router via Ethernet to confirm your provider speeds.
  • Test again over Wi-Fi in the same room to see if radios are the bottleneck.
  • Log download, upload, latency, and jitter to compare after each change.

Optimize Wi-Fi coverage

  • Place your router high and central; avoid cabinets and metal surfaces that block signal.
  • Use 5 GHz or 6 GHz for modern devices and move legacy smart gear to a 2.4 GHz guest network.
  • Add mesh nodes for dead zones and backhaul them via Ethernet where possible.

Harden performance over time

  • Schedule firmware updates monthly and reboot gear if latency creeps up.
  • Enable QoS for video calls and streaming apps to keep uploads consistent when the network is busy.
  • Re-run speed tests quarterly and after hardware changes to track improvements.

Retest and log improvements

Run SwiftSpeedTest after each change. Note the download, upload, and latency shifts to lock in better performance.
